		<description>Thank you for publishing this post.  I have been cautioning my clients for a while now that triclosan is neither effective nor has it been shown to be safe.  

Of course the &quot;not proven to be safe part&quot; is true for almost all chemicals in consumer goods.  I&#039;m keeping my fingers crossed that Frank Lautenberg&#039;s bill The Safe Chemicals Act of 2010, which is now making its way through Congress, will institute premarket safety testing for all new chemicals and will require safety reviews of the most common existing chemicals.

In the meantime it&#039;s up to us to make better choices.  With triclosan I think the biggest hurdle to overcome in the misconception--fostered by manufacturers--that triclosan is more effective than soap.  So the more we can spread the word about Aiello&#039;s study the better.</description>
