For those that want to do some things right now - they can start with a bunch of little things. Also, take a look at Square Foot Gardening - it is an easy way for families to provide organic, sustainable foods (which may not reduce their house carbon footprint - but it is a holistic approach, right?). The cost is offset by the savings, too, so I have to disagree that green building is costly.
