Zkano Organic Cotton Socks Review & Giveaway.

This giveaway has ended, and winners will be announced shortly. Cotton, while advertised as “natural”, is actually one of the most pesticide-laden crops (and thus, products) in use today. Sure, their ads on TV don’t tell you that, but that’s why it’s important to do your homework! Well, Gina from Zkano sure did her homework, as 20 years ago her dad had a dream to start his own sock manufacturing company which became very successful – leading to Gina wanting to incorporate her passion for green living into the company today. After 1.5 years of research, Zkano socks is family owned & operated and is selling organic cotton socks made right here in the U.S. .

They currently have 8 different styles of socks made with 100% certified organic cotton, and ever since she provided a few pairs for me, I haven’t wanted to take them off my feet. They are so much warmer, softer, and better at sliding across my dining room floor than my other socks!

All their socks are made from the highest quality 100% certified organic ring-spun cotton, grown without the use of pesticides, chemicals or toxins. From the site: “We do this so they are more comfortable, more durable and better all around – for the environment, our growers, our knitters, and for you. Our socks are sweatshop-free, and finished without the use of harmful heavy metal dyes.”

I wonder if Zkano is going to start making children’s socks anytime soon? Because… little feet REALLY need to be pesticide free. :D

I saw somewhere, maybe panna.org or an episode of EcoTrip on the Sundance channel, that the pesticide used on cotton is regulated differently because it isn’t labeled as a food crop. However, they do use the seeds from the cotton in foods we eat (anything with cottonseed oil) and the husks and seed are fed to cattle. So not only are we wearing pesticide laden clothing we’re ingesting it too due to a loop hole in the regulations.

Sometimes I feel like we just can’t win. But that’s not going to keep me from trying. Bravo to Gina and Zkano for doing their part and you for letting us know about them.
