I believe one of the main reasons in the US still is, that resources, i.e. water and electricity, are still cheap (compared to Europe). People simply don't have to conserve. Higher prices sometimes drive newer and more modern products; same with automobiles. OT: only 61 new Cadillac Escalade registered in Germany last year - that's how many you can see in CA in an hour ;) Happy new year - Cheers @Gadgeta is right.
