They are quite safe and enormously beneficial. Only two accidents have ever occurred. The Three Mile Island incident did not hurt anyone. The Chernobyl incident was the result of deliberate experimentation with the safety systems, specifically, TURNING THEM OFF to see what would happen, and even this would not have hurt anyone if it weren't for shoddy, negligent Soviet engineering.
