Book Review & Giveaway – Vegetarian Cooking For Mommies.

vegetariancooking Book Review & Giveaway Vegetarian Cooking For Mommies.

This giveaway has ended. Don’t be fooled – this vegetarian cookbook is not just for Mommies at all! Vegetarian Cooking For Mommies by Laura Theodore is a great little vegetarian cookbook that my wife and I made some great recipes from. While I am not a vegetarian, my wife is – and she is always on the lookout for new recipes to try out. And luckily Laura’s book not only has new recipes in it, but she also goes has a Vegetarian Food Glossary that goes into detail about some of the ingredients that are found throughout the book, including vegan milk, tamari sauce, soy cheese and tofu. This glossary section also tells the reader what they should have as “staples” in their pantry, so it’s a helpful guide to buying better foods as well. Obviously, being a vegetarian cookbook, there is a large focus on dishes made with vegetables, but there are also recipes for vegetarian deserts! And while we tried several of the recipes in the book (all of which were good), one of my favorites was the “Nutritious Nachos” made with soy cheese. The ingredient list was simple – organic tortilla chips, tomatoes, green pepper, black olives, cilantro, sea salt, and the soy cheese. It was delicious!

Laura Theodore has put together a great little cookbook here for anyone who either is or is thinking about trying out the vegetarian lifestyle. We have more than our fair share of cookbooks in our house right now (ah bulging bookcase), so I wanted to give you guys the opportunity to win our copy of Vegetarian Cooking For Mommies!

  1. My teen daughter needs some vegetarian cookery books as she prepares for independence. This sounds like one I’d like to give her. Thanks for the the give away.

  2. I’m a vegetarian, but a very picky eater (which is kind of embarrassing), so I’m always looking for new vegetarian recipes that aren’t too “blah,” but with ingredients I like. Furthermore, I’m expecting our first child and have a strong interest in raising this child (and future children) mostly vegetarian.

  3. Kate says:

I’m a “flexitarian,” to use the latest trendy word, who tries to eat as little meat as possible. My husband, on the other hand, would be very content to eat meat and potatoes three times a day, seven days a week. I’d love to get my hands on a cookbook with great meatless recipes that we’d both like.

  4. I would love to get my sister and sister in-law to cook more vegetarian meals and I’m hoping this cookbook would help them out.

  5. Rebecca says:

Oh! Fantastic! I’ve been a vegetarian for almost 20 years now (started at age 12) but shamefully, I have never learned to cook. Now that I’m married I’m trying to learn to pull my weight in the kitchen, and we are trying to become new parents too! I’d love some advice on how to raise myself and my child(ren) vegetarian– hopefully I can teach them to cook when they’re young so they don’t end up like me!

  6. Lauren says:

I’ve recently become a vegetarian and I’m having trouble finding recipes that both myself and my non-vegetarian family will enjoy! I would love a vegetarian cookbook to help me create meals that are healthy and tasty!

  7. Kristin says:

My partner and I have been vegetarians for about 12 years and we have a 16 month old son and would love to find more recipes that he would be interested in. He’s in that, “I don’t like any veggies or healthy foods” stage. Plus, sometimes we feel like we are in a food rut and this might be the thing to get us unstuck!

  8. Sarah says:

Since I am a vegetarian and my husband is a borderline veggie hater (nothing green passes his lips), I am always on the lookout for new and creative recipies that we can both enjoy. I hope this book will have some new meals for us to try!

  9. Jeremy says:

My wife and I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old, we are looking for smart a creative ways to incorporate veg dishes into their diet.

  10. sarah says:

As I move my family closer to vegetarianism and experiment more with cooking good healthy meals, a book like this would REALLY help!

  11. Patrick Craig says:

My wife, a vegetarian, sadly (from my stomach’s point of view) is also a city girl. Myself, also vegetarian, but sadly working too many hours to cook these days. Any tempting veggie recipes that could entice her to enter the kitchen instead of reaching for the phone would be a godsend! :)

  12. Mrs. Money says:

    Wow, awesome!

  13. Chase says:

My sister is a vegan, and she does a lot of cooking. She’d really like this book, even though she insists that she never plans to become a mommy. If she doesn’t want it, I could use it myself, as I’m living alone in an apartment this coming school year, and I don’t have much cooking experience.

  14. Azul says:

Well, being a vegetarian, grown in a big family full of uh, omnivores (haha), it’s really hard for my mom to cook meals that are suitable for the whole family (plus, we don’t have a huge knowledge on vegetarian recipes!), so this book could open up our eyes to new stuff to try cook for the whole family :)

  15. Paola says:

I’m a vegetarian and always looking for new recipes to motivate my 12 year to fully commit to being a vegetarian.

  16. Heather S says:

I’d like to check out this cookbook, because recently my family and I have been slowly but surely integrating vegetarian and gluten free meals into our usual and comfortable dishes!

  17. Eric says:

I’m a carnivore, mostly because I don’t have the willpower to give it up, but am married to a vegetarian. I do the cooking, and always strive to make the best meal possible for both of us, I know that my true talent lies in the cooking of meats. I’m always on the lookout for better veg recipes, and am especially intrigued by the thought that such a book could make me a better shopper for vegetarian ingredients as well.

  18. Amy says:

Well, we’ve been on the path to vegetarian for some time now. My hubby and I made big changes in our diets after years of infertility. We celebrated the birth of our little boy, Marcus, in August 2008. And, now as he is gaining more and more interest in solids I am compelled to live and even healthier life. We would love to experiment with the recipes in the this book as we continue our journey toward health for our family and for the planet that our children will have the joy of caring for!

  19. treemama says:

though we are still omnivores (we get our meat from a local organic farmer), my girls (6) and (8) committed to do three vegetarian meals a week, for our health and the health of the planet.

so far we’ve been pretty inventive since they love veggies, but still sometimes it’s hard!
    the book sounds great.

  20. Kelly says:

I’m not a vegetarian, but I am a mommy. My little one will be ready for real food soon enough and I’d love to have some fun, kid friendly options around our house that promote eating more veggies!

  21. Jacque says:

As a two time, breast cancer survivor I am trying to integrate more vegetarian meals, and live a more healthier lifestyle overall. I’m anxious to try and learn how to cook a variety of healthier meals. This cookbook would be a welcome addition to our kitchen. Thank you so much for all you do.

  22. Kimberly says:

I love love love to cook! I would have to say that I eat everything, but more often than not, I seem to lean towards vegetarian options. There’s just so much flavor…this book sounds great! I think it could expand my knowledge and shine a light on more cullinary experimentations. What a great give away! Best of luck to all interested :)
