Heh, I'm still amazed at the gullibility of some people. Trusting PETA of all people, for facts and numbers? While trying to get good treatment of animals is always good; domestic terrorism, staging videos of animal cruelty, attacking people, slur campaigns, and using offensive advertising (such as the one intended for KIDS here: http://mypetjawa.mu.nu/archives/peta.jpg) is a very, very bad way of doing it.

“The animals—who are housed in unbearably small cages—live with fear, stress, disease, parasites and other physical and psychological hardships…” reports PETA.

Not only is this unethical-its just not feasible. Animals cannot be raised this way and produce furs of any value; farmers who want their furs to be used in any clothing must treat their animals well. They cannot do it otherwise.

I, for one, DO support the fur industry. I think taxidermy should be respected as and art, that fur is beautiful, and I often use it myself for my own artistic pursuits. I also believe in good animal husbandry-I use high quality fur from Italy which has strict codes and guidelines, for example, legislation on how minks are to be treated:

"...to be given enriched living enviroments in wich they can climb on branches, dig holes, use a nest of 50X50 cm and also have a water basin of at least 2X2 meters and 50cm deep in which to swim."

Please people, before you accept facts as truth, research both side, and see that their sources are credible. Official documents, records of bills, etc. are all good sources! Question everything!

Linda, I believe Peta takes fur donations to use as bedding for rescued animals. Perhaps your local shelters/rescue groups would be interested in receiving a coat for the same purpose.
