Do One Thing: Install A Motion Detector.

This week’s Do One Thing involves outdoor lighting. Many people, come nightfall, turn on their outside lights and leave them on all night. (We have a neighbor like that, but they live far enough away that it doesn’t affect us too much) Not only is this a waste of electricity, but it also contributes to light pollution in your surrounding area. Live in or near a city? Then you know what I mean – it never really gets dark at night. Out here at my house I can see the Milky Way, so I definitely know the difference after living in Los Angeles. But installing a motion detector on your outside light will still light the way to your door, save you money on your utilities, make the lightbulb last longer, and help keep our skies dark. It’s a win-win all around!
