    I moved to Europe in 2005 and I was shocked at how much smaller the average engine displacement seemed to be in passenger cars. New diesel tech is one way to go, but smaller, cheaper and slower will raise the average mileage too. American car makers sell 2 liter engines to the same kind of folks that buy 1 liter engines in Europe. It doesn’t make sense.
