I now live in Shanghai and can't find cardboard scratch boxes anywhere. My cat hates the expensive ones you buy in pet shops, just a cheap cardboard one will do her. But now we don't have one, she's starting the scratch the furniture for the first time in her life! Will get onto making my own! Thank you so much! I simply cut strips of cardboard as deep as the box and then put them in cut side up until the box is full all the way across. The cats love it! I get a few bits of carboard, but they end up the in the compost bin anyways. I also have a sisal scraching post I made from an old sisal rug and a poster tube, the cats love it and the sisal that scratches off goes into the compost as well. I make mine in a flat box.
