Quick Green Reads For The Weekend Volume Ninety Six.

Well, as you are reading this I should be getting near to Chicago on an Amtrak train. We have a layover here for about 6 hours or so, and my wife’s mom and brother are coming into the city to have “linner” with us (lunch/dinner). It is nice that we will get to see them, as we always alternate the holidays with our families, and this year we are going to Boston to see mine. But because of this delay here, my wife at least gets to see her family on the way to and from! On to the green reads…
“Smart grid” is an exciting term that comes up a lot these days. But what does it actually mean? I sat down last week with Roger Duncan, general manager of Austin Energy, one of the most innovative utilities in the nation. Taking a wide view of the electric grid of the future — one that will likely see increased demand from electrified cars — Mr. Duncan envisions a triangle of consumption and production, its three points being the utility; homes and buildings; and the transportation sector.
The male gender is in danger, with incalculable consequences for both humans and wildlife, startling scientific research from around the world reveals. The research – to be detailed tomorrow in the most comprehensive report yet published – shows that a host of common chemicals is feminising males of every class of vertebrate animals, from fish to mammals, including people.
Talk about a serious transformation! VaST, a Colorado-based a+d firm, purchased an old porn shop earlier this year — the building was located close to Boulder — and completely gutted the place. VaST took all that out and set a new standard in using green materials, particularly salvaged and unique materials. Located at 1720 15th Street in Boulder, Candy Shop is the right kind of place for a budding green professional or socially aware independent looking for some co-working space. Plus, they’ve just added solar panels to supply a portion of the building’s energy … check out the particulars of the renovation.
Typical of many adolescents, Daniel was apparently a regular user of personal care products such as hair gels and deodorant sprays. On this fateful occasion it seems he was just `too generous` with the amount of Lynx Vice underarm spray deodorant he applied. It was confirmed that the chemicals used for the propellant gas in the deodorant spray overwhelmed Daniels lungs leading him to suffer cardiac arrhythmia, after which he collapsed in the bath never to regain consciousness.
I don’t even know what you call the latest marketing ploy by the coal industry lobby group the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE). But if there’s one thing that is for certain it’s that ACCCE has way too much time and money on their hands. I encourage you to check out ACCCE’s Clean Coal Carolers – I really don’t mind sending a bunch of traffic their way because this latest publicity stunt is absolutely absurd and shows just how far the coal lobby is willing to go to market their dirty product as somehow being clean. In fact, I think you should send this to everyone you know, show them how ridiculous this clean coal marketing has actually become.
Alert! New Consumer Product Safety Rules Will Make Handmade, Natural Toys Illegal. This is really scary – talk about hurting small businesses!
Have a great weekend everyone…
