Supreme Court Decides Exxon Doesn’t Have Any Money; Reduces Valdez Fine.
I guess profits in the billions every quarter for the last couple of years just isn’t helping Exxon stay afloat, so the Supreme Court just declared that the $2.5 billion in punitive damages owed for the Valdez oil spill in Alaska is just too much and it should be reduced to $507 million. This is a company that made $40.6 billion in profit last year alone, and $2.5 billion owed from 19 years ago is too much to pay for one of the worst environmental disaster in history?
Now we can all be clear about the fact that the oil companies are indeed running the show, no doubt about it. And while I do not believe in gas boycotts as they don’t do any good, I do know I will be going out of my way to not buy gas from these guys, that’s for sure.
