I think it is time for another vacation - that last one went by way too fast and I have already been home for almost a week. How in the world does that happen? Now that I am back in reality, here are some articles that caught my eye this past week.

Those of you wanting more Green News should check out Alltop, the new project from Guy Kawasaki. The Good Human is featured in the Green section along with tons of other great sites.

Lots of people are thinking of trading their cars for something that gets better mileage since gas prices are so high. Now don’t get me wrong, I am as environmentally conscious or green as the next person. However, there are some financial considerations that one should take into account before buying any vehicle.

On the heels of Freecycle’s success comes 2Swap, a new website dedicated to helping you pass your old books into loving hands, while receiving books of your choice for free.

Australian farmers in the wet tropical region of North Queensland have bought over 20,000 of these so-called diesel trees. The intention is that in 15 or so years they’ll have their very own oil mine growing on their farmland. Because, the Brazilian Copaifera langsdorfii, to use its botanical name, can be tapped not unlike a rubber tree, but instead of yielding rubbery latex it gives up a natural diesel.

I recently had an occasion to create some sawdust building our square foot garden box. All that cutting and drilling left a small pile of sawdust behind, and instead of simply scraping it up and throwing it away, I wondered how I might be able to reuse it… From weed killing to cleaning up spills, sawdust is a handyman’s most useful leftover.

    Thanks for including my sawdust article. It was a little off topic for me, but I’m trying to find more ways to be less wasteful and I wanted to share. It was a good lesson because it only took a little bit of research to find those uses for leftover sawdust. Imagine if we all just took a little extra time to pay attention to what we are using up and throwing away.

    Isn’t it amazing how being away for a week feels so good? Of course, reality seems to set in way too fast once you’re back. It looks like you had a great trip. I’d love to do the yurt thing sometime. It looks like a blast.
