I think they've developed a composting diaper as well, but I'll have to remember where I read the article.

I agree Greg...anything to get us to buy, consume, and throw away seems to be what we are taught. Great advice, appreciate it!

We did cloth diapers and its all true - its cheaper, easier, nicer for your child. We got the ones that are sewn into an hour-glass shape with multi plys, so no folding. We also tried many multiple kinds of diaper covers - here is where it will make you or break you. You need a good fit at the leg, and you got to hope the cover does not get soiled each time, or you will fly through covers as fast as diapers. The best ones were these heavy wool ones - they cost more but worked so much better.

We did cloth wipes as well - no disposable wipes. Kept in a little box with soapy water - healthy soap of your choice. No more work as they just go in with the diapers to wash anyway

I think disposable diapers has to rank up there with formula as one of the biggest hoaxes sprung on new parents..

If anyone is thinking about switching for disposable diapers (or 'nappies' as we call them here) to reusables, it would be worth your while taking a look at those made from Bamboo fibres. Bamboo can be grown with less environmental impact that cotton and the resulting fibre is actually more absorbent.

We switched our son over to reusables about 2 months ago and I posted a couple of articles about our decision to switch and how thing are working out.
