In response to ila:

I was at the rally and it was quite an event. By my estimation, there were about 3,000 people at its peak, nearly filling the square outside LA City Hall. Many unions showed up in support, with a large contingency from CSEA and CNA.

The crowd was very active and excited, as speakers Lily Tomlin, John Garamendi, Dennis Kucinich and many others delivered rousing messages, contrasted with personal stories from victims of the current healthcare system.

There were numerous news vans, photographers, and cameramen covering the event, but I haven't seen any coverage of it on TV in the few glimpses I've had of the local news channels.

There were no incidents and the rally on the whole went smoothly. Interestingly, Governor Schwarzenegger held a healthcare forum the same day as the rally, perhaps to draw away media attention?

To me this rally was not only a culmination of 365 days of healthcare education events up and down California, but marked the solid beginning of a grassroots healthcare reform movement that will hopefully sweep across California and eventually the nation. It was surely a historic event.
