Quick Green Reads For The Weekend Volume Twenty Three.

We are headed up to San Francisco today to visit some friends before their second baby comes along and things get too hectic. I decided to take the Mini even though I really wanted to test drive the Honda…but since we are not buying in the immediate future, I guess I don’t need to test it this weekend. So I will save a little cash and take the Mini. On to the news!

Russia has decided to stake claim to the North Pole for the oil under the melting ice. If you don’t think there is a world war coming due to peak oil, let this be a clear sign of what is to come.

“Eco” consumerism gone bad – People are spending $15 on a bag that says “I’m Not A Plastic Bag” because, well, it is by a designer and it says “I’m Not A Plastic Bag” on it. Don’t these people realize that there are free and/or cheap reusable bags everywhere you look and spending money on a designer bag is not exactly “eco-friendly”? I mean, it is made in China and is neither organic nor fair-trade. Goes back to my post about the $328 recycling bin for your kitchen. Ugh.

Massachusetts Democrat John Olver offers up the information that the United States would soon attack Iran, and that these hostilities would be followed by the imposition of a martial law regime here. Combine this with Michael Chertoff and his “gut feeling that the nation faces a heightened chance of an attack this summer” and Rick Santorum’s “between now and November, a lot of things are going to happen, and I believe that by this time next year, the American public is going to have a very different view of this war.”, you have to wonder what some might know about that the rest of us don’t. Sucks.

Toyota has begun testing plug-in Hybrids…it’s about time and I cannot wait for these cars to be come a reality.

Have a great weekend everyone!
