Quick Green Reads For The Weekend Volume Seventeen.

green.jpg

Since it is Friday I suppose it’s time for another installment of Quick Green Reads For The Weekend. Here are some stories that I found interesting this week:

SOLARA, the first apartment community in California to be fully powered by the sun, officially opened today. This development represents a breakthrough in integrating solar in multifamily housing and establishes a new standard in sustainable design. Now we only have to get every other apartment community to do the same as they are being built!

Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore denounced a deal by world leaders on curbing greenhouse gases as “a disgrace disguised as an achievement,” saying on Thursday the agreement struck last week was insufficient. Go Al!

More than 30 years after the Vietnam War ended, the poisonous legacy of Agent Orange has emerged anew with a scientific study that has found extraordinarily high levels of health-threatening contamination at the former U.S. air base at Danang. Since my Dad’s cancer had been linked to his exposure in Vietnam and he died from it, this just plain old sucks big time.

Lastly, I wanted to give a thumbs up to one of my new favorite sites, Future House Now. If you are into modern, energy efficient and environmentally friendly homes, this site is the place for you. Be sure to go check it out.

Have a great weekend everyone!

    1. Props on the Future House Now link. I’m a regular DWELL reader and green, sustainable, modular housing is a fascination of mine. Unfortunately most of it seems priced for the Lexus 440H-driving bourgeois bohemian set, at least until the demand goes up.

You read Dwell? Nice….and yea, unfortunately these places are not exactly wallet friendly, even though they claim to be. I am still trying to find that elusive affordable prefab house!
