Do You Know Which Products Are Made Out Of Oil?
While we know that a lot of things used in our everyday life are made from petroleum, I don’t think we truly realize to what extent the oil industry has a hold on us. In fact, according to a survey released yesterday, 72 percent of the American public does not know that conventional plastic is made from petroleum products. That is a huge percentage of people to not even know one of the basic creations of petroleum. After I saw that statistic I decided to assemble a list of some things that you might not know about, all of which will be affected by the rising price of oil and our work to reduce CO2 emissions in general in the coming years.

Need I go on? As you can see, there are hundreds if not thousands of products directly made from petroleum. While we are trying to ween ourselves off of fossil fuels in our cars, we have to think about how this will affect us in other ways. Sure, there are some natural products you can use instead of the ones made out of oil, but for a lot products, there are no alternatives available right now. Be sure to think about the products you buy and what they are made of. If you can get the same product in a “natural” or alternative version, be sure to pick that one up instead. Every little bit will help as we head towards peak oil and an uncertain future without fossil fuels.
