Kansas Repeals Abstinence Only Programs From Schools.

And common sense prevails. We all remember being teenagers; preaching abstinence does not work! It is not sex education, it is a waste of time. Sex education should entail teaching about birth control, sexually transmitted diseases and responsibility…not just “Don’t Do It”. Teenagers are teenagers and they should be taught ways to be responsible about being sexually active. Telling them not to do it is like talking to a wall; just like everything else you talk to teens about that they don’t want to hear, they probably won’t listen. At least if you give them some of the tools to be a little more responsible, they MIGHT pick up on some of the information. The Kansas Board of Education instituted the “Abstinence Plus” program last year, making it mandatory that abstinence be taught in school and students have to get permission to attend sex ed classes. But now it will be up to the states 296 school districts to decide on their own, which is a step in the right direction.

Thankfully some moderates are in charge there and these rules have been repealed. Now maybe students can be taught something worthwhile that they might use, rather than something that we all know is not too effective.
