Electric Mini Cooper Coming Soon - Only $59,000!

Regular readers of this site know that we own a Mini Cooper, and it truly is the best car I have ever owned. It is far and away more comfortable than my old Audi and better on gas than my first “real” new car, a 1994 Honda Civic. I don’t think I could get rid of it if someone handed me a pile of cash for it, but one thing that would really make it a better car would be if it happened to be electric. I guess all I need to do is come up with “only” $59,000 and an electric version can be mine. Huh?

The idea is great, as the Mini would be a perfect car to make electric. But $59,000 is crazy talk. For only $20,000 more I can get a Tesla electric car that goes 200-250 miles on a charge and would embarrass a Ferrari. When the kinks get worked out on all these electric car ideas and the prices are reasonable, I will be first in line. Our next car will be a hybrid (when we actually need another car) and for us, that will have to do for now. Got an electric car as cool as the Mini or Tesla for $30,000? Count me in.

  1. I’ve been seeing articles on how the plants that smelt the nickel for the Toyota Prius battery has a dead zone for miles around. Do you know if this Mini Cooper uses the same sort of battery or if not, what environmental impact the material it uses does have? (Just wondering, I don’t have any clue as to the answer.)
