And The Pollution Award Goes To…

The people over at oceana.org have compiled a very cool video mock up of an awards ceremony for polluters called the “MOMMIE” awards, which stands for Masters for Making Mercury In the Environment. Pretty creative, no? The awards recognize the lost art of creating mercury pollution. Winner’s include Olin’s Augusta, Georgia plant which won a MOMMIE in “Performance by a factory in a contaminating role” and PPG’s Natrium, West Virginia plant for winner in “Achievement in Illegal Effects”. There are a bunch of other companies and plants that won different awards, and you really should go watch the video and read about all the other winners.

After you check out the winners, there are forms and contact information for the companies to let them know what you think of them. There are also all sorts of ways to take action against mercury pollution both in your area and across the nation.

If you have a few minutes, head on over to oceana.org and see what the MOMMIES are all about!
