The True Meaning Of Bushs Press Conference.
So after hearing and then reading the transcript of President Bush’s press conference on February 14th, I decided to I wanted to explain what he really meant. You see, Bush loves to talk, as evidenced by his complete control of the English language. So some people might not fully understand what he means when he gives these press conferences, and I wanted to fill you in. His quotes will be in bold type, and my explanation/response will follow each segment. I am not putting the entire transcript up as it is about 103,462 pages long, but rather only the most important segments. I hope this helps everyone to understand!
In other words, I’m paying attention to the schedule of troop deployments to make sure that they’re there, so that General Petraeus will have the troops to do the job — the number of troops to do the job that we’ve asked him to do.
See, he is paying attention to the schedule, you…you…ordinary citizens that have no need for time. This President is watching the clock, ok? And you can tell he wants you to understand by the way he said “In other words, I’m paying attention to the schedule”. (Psst – what other way is there to say that? And who didn’t understand so he had to rephrase it?)
We talked about the coordination between Iraqi and coalition forces. And I would characterize their assessment as the coordination is good. In other words, there’s good conversation, constant conversation between the commanders of our troops and their troops, and that’s a positive development.
Again, he just wants you simple folks to understand what he is saying. He wants to phrase things in “other words” in case you didn’t understand the prior sentence. (Psst – Yes, he said the same thing. In the same words. No, you aren’t that simple.)
We saw on our TV screens the terrorists will send car bombs into crowded markets. In other words, these are people that will kill innocent men, women and children to achieve their objective…
Ok, I cannot take much more of these explanations in all their “other words”..
Yesterday there was a suicide bomber. In other words, there’s an active strategy to undermine the Maliki government and its Baghdad security….
Seriously? SERIOUSLY? IN OTHER WORDS….
But we can help secure that capital; help the Iraqis secure that capital so that people have a sense of normalcy — in other words, that they’re able to get a better sense that this government of theirs….
KNOCK IT OFF ALREADY. I UNDERSTAND IT THE FIRST TIME YOU SAY IT.
I’ve listened to a lot of voices; people in my administration heard a lot of voices.
Ok no you are scaring me. Do you listen to voices? Or do you listen to people? And the voices your staff hear….where do they come from? Who is using those voices? Is it God?
And by providing this political breathing space, in other words, giving the Maliki government a chance to reconcile and do the work necessary to achieve reconciliation, it’ll hasten the day
ARGH. I think that when they coach him on his answers, they keep saying “in other words” to help him understand, and then he uses the phrase in each and every paragraph.
Here is where things will be cleared up for sure. Bush takes some questions.
Q Thank you, sir. General Pace says that these bombs found in Iraq do not, by themselves, implicate Iran. What makes you so certain that the highest levels of Tehran’s government is responsible?
….The message to the Iranian people is that your leaders are making decisions that are isolating you in the world, thereby denying you a brighter future. And I believe Iran is an unbelievably vital nation. It’s got a great history, it’s got wonderful traditions, it’s got very capable, smart people. There is — I believe there’s also a desire to not be isolated from the world.
Hmm, that did not go so well. He did not so much explain anything but rather told the reporter that Iran is like the United States. You know, leaders making decisions that isolate citizens from the rest of the world…and a desire to not be isolated from the rest of the world. Interesting, no?
The idea that somehow we’re manufacturing the idea that the Iranians are providing IEDs is preposterous, Ed.
HA HA HA HA AHAHAHAHAA. Wow. He has now lost all credibility. Here I am trying to explain his press conference to people that while they would not understand his initial words, Bush always has the backup words to help him explain things to you. But this one? What a crock. Preposterous? I beg your pardon, sir, but you lied to us about the weapons in Iraq, so why would you not do it this time too?
Energy is an opportunity for us to work together. We’ve done a lot of work in the past on promoting alternative sources of energy. America has done more than any nation in the world in promoting alternatives and renewables, all aiming to make sure our economy grows, that we have energy independence, and that we’re good stewards of the environment.
Good stewards of the environment? Bush has one of the worst environmental records of any President in the history of this country, never mind in the world. Where does he dream this stuff up about alternatives and renewables..he and his administration has no interest in this stuff. Well, if they can make money they do. But unfortunately the sun does not pay dividends.
Finally, No Child Left Behind needs to be reauthorized. I fully understand that if you read your newspaper articles — which I do sometimes — and listen carefully, you’ll hear voices in both parties saying they don’t like No Child Left Behind –it’s too much testing, or, we don’t want to be held to account, or whatever they say. The bill is working. It makes a lot of sense.
You are so right sir. I am betting that every educator in America does not want kids to learn! I bet all of them that say this program does not work and is harming our kids more than helping them are all Communists! Parents HATE when their children learn and stuff. Yea, that’s it! Communists!
THE PRESIDENT: Last question, then I’ve got to go have lunch with Bob Gates, Secretary of the Defense.
Wow, that is impressive that he knows who the Secretary of Defense! Good for him, he studied his cliff notes this morning. Name dropper.
I give up. I cannot go on. It turns out that the true meaning of his words from the press conference was….I don’t have a friggin clue. He did not give me enough “in other words” for me to truly understand. Sorry for trying to explain it, if you made it this far in this article. I really am.
And no, you are not alone if you never have any clue as to what he is talking about.
