Living with Ed makes fun of environmentalists and should be cancelled.
Does anyone else feel this way? I was really looking forward to checking out “Living with Ed” on HGTV when I first heard about it…and then I finally saw it. Ugh. It is basically a half hour show dedicated to making fun of environmentalists and their “whacky” ideas about recycling, solar energy and water cisterns. I know that Ed Begley Jr. is a big time environmentalist and I thought it was going to be a great show where we could see how the efforts of one family to be more responsible in their environment could make a difference. Instead, we get his wife rolling her eyes at Ed wanting to recycle kitchen cabinets; we get his wife laughing at him for being up on the roof cleaning off the solar panels; we get his wife complaining all the time about wanting to pull the whole house down and build something bigger and nicer. We get interviews with his wife where she wonders why she sticks around; how Ed likes to recycle everything and how difficult that is for her; and how it is crazy that he grows food in the backyard when they sell it at the store down the street.
Mr. Begley, I beg of you….cancel the show. It could have been good, but unfortunately it is not. Your wife is making you look like a fool for being an environmentalist and believe me, we don’t need any more help looking like fools. Most of the middle of the country thinks recycling and bringing your own bags to the grocery store is crazy talk, and your wife is not helping. Now we have a celebrity on TV making toast by cycle power with his wife making fun of him. This is what middle America has as an image of environmentalists. We don’t need to confirm their stereotype with a TV show, we need to change their minds.
Mr. Begley, please give this some thought. If you want to keep your show on the air, please make sure you are doing something good for the movement rather than allowing your wife to make you and other environmentalists look like fools.
