41 square mile ice shelf breaks free, environment happy!
See, global warming is good….it means FREEDOM for the ice shelves! I mean, G.W. is always talking about “freedom”, so here is another example of our progress. I cannot wait to see what freedoms come along in the future.
Seems a 41 square mile piece of the Arctic ice shelf has broken free of its confines and floated away, creating an ice island of sorts. This was one of the last 6 remaining ice shelves in the Canadian North, made up of ice that is over 3,000 years old. To see what this why this could be happening, we can turn to Warwick Vincent of Laval University, who says:
“We are crossing climate thresholds, and these may signal the onset of accelerated change ahead.”
Well now, that sure is great news. And even more positively, “It is consistent with climate change,” Vincent said, adding that the remaining ice shelves are 90 percent smaller than when they were first discovered in 1906.
Whoo hoo! 90% smaller…now that is A LOT of freedom!
