Do you make minimum wage? Well, you did not get a raise.

Well, I think we all could have seen this coming, huh? Once again, the Republicans showed their true colors (not that they are that hard to see every day) and voted down the first increase in the minimum wage in TEN YEARS. Yes, thats right…if you are a minimum wage earner, you are now, brace yourself, making the EXACT amount of money per hour that you were making in 1997.

Why dont they get it? Well, they do. They know exactly what they are doing. Keeping lower income people in the lower income brackets is what they do best. It leaves more money for them and their other rich buddies, and it leaves them room to again and again offer tax breaks to the people…their version of a “Golden Ticket”. Except in this story, the rich guys get everything they want and the people never get a winning wrapper.

Of course, this comes on the heels of CONGRESS GETTING A RAISE again. Check out the link to see how much they got.

From CNN:

“WASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican-controlled Senate refused Wednesday to raise the minimum wage, rejecting an election-year proposal from Democrats for the first increase in nearly a decade.

The vote was 52-46, eight short of the 60 needed.

‘I don’t think the Republicans get it,’ said Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Massachusetts, who backed a proposal for a three-step increase in the current wage floor to $7.25 an hour. The federal minimum wage has been fixed at $5.15 an hour since 1997.”

WOW.
