Quick Book Review: Better Off
I have been reading a lot of books lately on the environment, sustainability, simple living and corporate responsibility. I finished this book a few months ago called “Better Off” by Eric Brende.
Eric and his wife got rid of their car, running water and anything else “modern” in life and moved to a remote community to see if people are indeed “Better Off” without modern conveniences. This story is a great read and I couldnt put it down. He makes an incredible case for living simply on the earth, and learns that through hard work and community, living ones life means something more than what we have and what we want when we dont have all of our daily “distractions”. My only major issue with the book is that at the end, they seem to leave it all behind and return to their old existence, which seems to negate everything they learned through the experience. But understanding that it was an experiement puts it all in perspective, and I learned a lot from this book. Check it out.
